Kyle Busch Takes a Shot at Dale Jr.

Fans who don’t like Kyle Busch probably want somebody to shut him up. There’s a way do to that, of course, and that’s to start beating him as often as Busch has been handing everybody their hats this season and last. Busch has won 10 times and finished in the top five 20 times in 41 races with Joe Gibbs Racing. He’s led 2,190 laps in those races, too. That’s getting the job done.
Busch took a little shot at Dale Earnhardt Jr. after Sunday’s race, too.
“For me, I don’t think I would enjoy having the most fans out there,” Busch said. “I actually like the way I am, the role I portray. And I think that there’s probably too much pressure on one guy’s shoulders who doesn’t seem to win very often. But for us, it’s a blast to go out there and do what we do.”
Now if you’re a Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan that should make your blood boil.

Lions to Draft Jason Smith at No. 1?

Amid comments from Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand indicating that the team will talk to multiple possible candidates for the No. 1 overall pick in the draft before making a final decision, the folks at KFFL are reporting, with Salisbury-esque certainty, that Baylor tackle Jason Smith will be the pick.
There’s no ambiguity in the one-sentence report: “KFFL has learned the Detroit Lions will take Baylor OT Jason Smith with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.”
If the Lions already have made that decision, and if Smith is the only person with whom they plan to negotiate, then the Lions deserve to go 0-16 for sixteen more years. Frankly, we don’t think that even the Lions are quite that stupid. Our guess is that someone at KFFL has at best caught wind of the fact that the Lions are negotiating with Smith’s agent.
But this hardly means that Smith is the pick.

Mark Martin Not Thinking About 2010

Mark Martin says he loves being a full-time driver but he’s not ready to decide if he wants to convince team owner Rick Hendrick that he wants to drive the No. 5 car full time in 2010.
After completing the pole-winning lap Friday for the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, Martin said he has a part-time contract with Hendrick Motorsports for 2010 and he’s not ready to talk about trying to change that.
“I love what I’m doing and I don’t want to quit racing, but I have not had a conversation with my wife, with Hendrick Motorsports, with anybody about that,” Martin said. “It’s way too premature to talk about that. I have a [part-time] contract for next year. … I don’t want to talk about next year.”
Last summer when Martin announced his signing with Hendrick Motorsports, he and Hendrick announced that Martin would drive a full season in 2009 with a part-time role in 2010. The other driver was not announced, although Brad Keselowski and Landon Cassill were considered the top candidates to share the ride with Martin.

A-Rod Dated a Fomer Manhattan Madam

A former Manhattan madam who supplied Eliot Spitzer with hookers also counted Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez as a customer - and found him so charming she dated him herself for free, former employees of the call-girl agency tell the Daily News.
A-Rod wooed ex-madam Kristin Davis with flowers, jewelry, persistence and heated e-mails, according to the sources.
“Throughout the years, there were a number of clients that I befriended and it was not uncommon for them to want the women they can’t have whether it be the phone bookers or the madam,” Davis said.
“In regard to Alex, all I can say is our paths have definitely crossed personally and professionally.”

QB Competition at Notre Dame?

While Jimmy Clausen “absolutely” remains the starter at quarterback, Charlie Weis hopes and expects sophomore Dayne Crist to push Clausen in what Weis termed a “pedal-to-the-metal” spring for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback position.
“I don’t think Dayne wants to sit there and wait until Jimmy graduates to say, OK, time for me to play,” Weis said. “Dayne is coming into spring to try and make it tough on Jimmy. That’s what he should be doing. He understands if he intends to beat (Clausen) out, he will have to play better than him. That would be a nice problem to have to deal with.”

Tiger Woods Rejects Jessica Simpson

Is Tiger Woods the one guy on the planet who would say no to golf lessons with Jessica Simpson?
According to several blogs, an unnamed source told In Touch Weekly, “Jessica is taking (golf) seriously. She even asked if Tiger Woods would give her some pointers, but he’s been busy with his new baby.”
Simpson is reportedly taking up the game to get closer to her boyfriend, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. Romo is a serious golfer in the off-season. Last year he tried to qualify for the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.

Is Matt Hughes a Hall of Famer?

Photo from AP Photo
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has five members in its Hall of Fame. Each of them – Dan Severn, Mark Coleman, Ken Shamrock, Randy Couture and Royce Gracie – still are active fighters.
And that’s why it’s puzzling that Matt Hughes, who has contributed as much to the UFC and to mixed martial arts as any of those five, isn’t already enshrined. It appears that Hughes will have to wait until retirement to be inducted, which is as it should have been in the first place.
He was badly beaten and looked like a shell of himself in a drubbing he suffered at the hands of Thiago Alves at UFC 85 in London on June 7. The technical knockout defeat marked his second consecutive loss and third in his last four fights.
But Hughes isn’t done.
He’ll fight arch-rival Matt Serra on May 23 in the co-main event of UFC 98 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, and even has raised the possibility of competing at middleweight.

Could Jay Cutler Land in Washington?

Photo from Reuters Pictures
That’s the hot rumor/assumption/falsehood of the day in the continuing saga of whether the Denver Broncos will grant quarterback Jay Cutler’s trade request.
Washington is allegedly trying to put together a three-team quarterback merry-go-round in which Cutler would end up in Washington, Matt Cassel in Denver and Jason Campbell in Kansas City.
The ‘Skins are denying they have any intention of dumping Campbell, which shows they were paying attention when the Broncos got themselves into this mess to begin with. New coach Josh McDaniels, formerly QB coach and offensive coordinator for the Patriots, actively tried to trade Cutler for Cassel last month, didn’t succeed, then lied about it.
