Un… freaking… believable. After just one season at Tennessee, head coach Lane Kiffin is on his way back to the University of Southern California. Kiffin takes over for Pete Carroll, who decided to jump to the NFL as coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
Multiple sources are now reporting that Texas Tech has hired former Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville to replace the fired Mike Leach. A news conference is set for Sunday at 3 P.M. eastern in Lubbock, Texas to officially introduce Tuberville.
Pete Carroll is reportedly close to signing to a five-year deal to become the new head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. According to the Los Angeles Times, Carroll will make $7 million per year as the Seahawks President and General Manager. Carroll currently makes about $4 million per year and has been the head coach of the USC Trojans since 2001.
There are still quite a few names being mentioned for the Texas Tech head coaching vacancy. Some of the names being thrown around are Art Briles, June Jones, Sonny Dykes, Kevin Sumlin, Ruffin McNeill and Guz Malzahn among others. According to Don Williams of The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, the Red Raiders have narrowed their choices to “four or five candidates.” Among those are two interesting names… Tommy Tuberville and Tommy Bowden.
This shouldn’t be much of a surprise to anyone but… Mike Leach has been fired. If you have been following this story, you had to know we would eventually be here. I just didn’t think it would this quick. Unfortunately, I was on the road for most of the day and wasn’t able to get anything posted in a timely manner so I won’t rehash what has already been reported everywhere else. I will simply express my thoughts on the subject and then point you to a few places where you can get all the juicy details.
With Jimmy Clausen moving on to the NFL and expected starter, Dayne Crist, limited in the spring after knee surgery wideout John Goodman could get a look at QB. John Goodman doesn’t yet know if he’ll play quarterback for the University of Notre Dame football team during spring practice under new coach Brian Kelly. But if Kelly puts him in that position, Goodman’s goal is to win the job.
Texas Tech head coach, Mike Leach, has been suspended by the school following a complaint filed by a player and his parents. Defensive Coordinator Ruffin Mcneill has been named the Interim Head Coach.

It looks like Urban Meyer is having second thoughts. We now have multiple sources that have confirmed Meyer will be taking a leave of absence for 2010 but will return to coach the Gators in 2011.
